Top 10 Urban Planning Services Providers in Europe – 2024

The European Union (EU) plays a pivotal role in urban planning through a comprehensive framework of regulations, directives, and funding programs. These initiatives aim to foster sustainable development, enhance living standards, and create cohesive urban environments in line with broader EU objectives.

A vital component of these efforts is the EU Green Deal, which aspires to make Europe climate-neutral by 2050. This initiative promotes green infrastructure, energy-efficient buildings, and sustainable transportation systems. In support of this goal, the Directive on Energy Performance of Buildings requires that all new EU buildings be nearly zero-energy by the end of 2020.

The EU's Cohesion Policy underpins infrastructure projects that stimulate economic development in urban areas, primarily through the European Regional Development Fund and the Cohesion Fund. The Urban Agenda for the EU enhances the urban dimension in EU policymaking by promoting better regulation, funding, and knowledge sharing to tackle urban challenges.

The European Social Fund (ESF) supports projects to foster social inclusion, education, and employment in urban areas. EU policies prioritise inclusive urban development and improve housing, healthcare, and public services, while investment in smart cities drives technological innovation and elevates urban living standards.
